A long run in suprisingly interesting area.
We drove down to Galloway on a glorious day. The A702 passes our house as a trunk road, but by the time it crosses Nithsdale, it becomes quite narrow and twisty, making for a long journey. We arrived in Glen Trool, checked out the stone and the view above the loch, then headed up the well constructed and popular path towards Merrick - the highest peak in the Southern Uplands. Wonderful views from the summit ! North of the summit was on pathless terrain, but great for running over. A few bumps, several lochans and one rain shower later I was on the summit of Shalloch on Minnoch - all very quiet - quite different from Merrick.
